Hill 218/Sector 219 Kickstarter is live
« on: July 08, 2014, 01:13:53 PM »
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/36468537/battle-for-hill-218-and-sector-219

After our first Kickstarter (Alexander vs. Persia) it's time for our second.  This one duplicated AvP's full funding on day one, so I'm feeling pretty good about it!

Tell your friends!  :)

The artwork on Sector 219 is simply amazing.  I'm very pleased to have found Carl and I'm glad to say that he's agreed to do the art for Space Flick as well.

Thanks guys.  We already have more backers than we got for AvP.  Of course, AvP had a higher base price ($45 vs. $20) and a lot of people used it to buy additional Battleground stuff, so 218/219 still has a ways to go to catch up in terms of money raised!

Quick update: the Kickstarter is moving along nicely.  We already have over $7,000 and over 300 backers.  There's a decent chance that this one will out-raise AvP, even with the lower base backer "price" and without all the money from people completing their Battleground collections.

That would be so cool!

It's funny, I was talking with a guy from the FLGS who watches us play BGFW all the time.  When I mentioned the Hill 218 kickstarter, he mentioned how awesome that game was.  I was shocked, and wasn't sure we were talking about the same thing.  I described it, the game play and such, and he kept nodding and saying "yep, that's the one."  He commented about how cool a game it was, and how it fit between when you're waiting to play another game and such.  Another guy seemed super intrigued and based on our conversation, said he'd support the kickstarter.  Its weird how popular this little one-off game is.

I know it didn't quite catch you, but I honestly think it deserves serious consideration for the "must have" game category.  I'm a hard core gamer -- I played Chess at the tournament level (albeit only as a strong amateur), I was on the Magic Pro Tour, etc.  I held off publishing Hill 218 because it's so hard to break even on a game like that (or at least was, pre-KS) but I kept on playing and playing and playing.  Finally I just said screw it, how can I possibly have a game company and not make a game I love this much?  I'm super-relieved that lots of people share my love of the game but I know what you mean about being shocked.  At a Gamma Trade Show we had multiple retailers who told us that they'd sold a dozen copies (when usually they would expect to sell 1-3 copies) without doing anything -- just one player would teach another and then that one would buy it.

Well, despite having a much lower average pledge (AvP was over $70 because of people picking up the entire historical set and/or various fantasy add-ons), the KS for Hill 218 and Sector 219 has now raised more money -- almost $15,000 so far, and Kicktraq projects us hitting $17K by the time we're done.  Of course, I'm already blowing that on a Sector 219 app and a retheme of Hill 218 but what's the point of making money if we don't spend it making more stuff?

Out of curiosity did you consider a BGG contest? Hill 218 strikes me as ideal for such a promotion.

I didn't...maybe I should have!  Or maybe we'll do that when we do the retheme version.
