Computer Program: Is Easy Opponent easy enough?
« on: October 26, 2007, 12:21:53 PM »
The "easy" computer opponent was a last-minute addition.  It's pretty trivial for me to make it easier than it is, if desired.

If anyone has a strong opinion that the "easy" computer opponent doesn't play poorly enough, please post to this thread.  (Or, as always, you can just e-mail me.)

Thanks!

Heh.  Darwin just told me he thinks it might be...he's 0-1 against it!  ;)

LOL.

I'll bump the range of random garbage that gets added to the score evaluation and upload a new version when I get home tonight.  If it can beat Darwin, it's too hard.

I now realize i'm not a good test subject for difficulty in this game...

I'm going to go in a corner and cry a bit...

1-2 on normal for me but i think it is really difficult.

BTW you should put an undo button, or a replay last turn or something.

New version uploaded, the "easy" version of the computer program is now a bit easier (though still not a pushover).

If you have already downloaded the program, the next time you launch it from your desktop, if you're connected to the internet, it will automatically download the new version for you.

Played yesterday.  0-8!

This looks like a fantastic game that I will for sure buy.  Love the theme and mechanics.  A lot more depth than it first appears.
Great job on the game guys!

Woohoo, I actually managed to win a game. ;)

Small miracles and all, since I think that puts me at 1 and 20 or so.

New version up with even easier "easy" opponent.  It's version 1.1 (Version number is in the "Hill 218" tab on the "About" menu).

This is the last time I'll post about having a new version up, unless I change something really major (which isn't likely since I've moved on to other projects).  From now on, I'll make any minor fixes and upload without sending a message to the board.

In Version 1.1 every now and then (approx. 1 in 5 games) player 1 gets 2 Cards to play. I guess that should not be the case.

No, that definitely should not be the case!  I can't think of how the change I made could possibly lead to that behavior, but if it's 1/5 of the games, it should be easy for me to repro the problem and fix it.

Thanks for the bug report.

I just started 20 games in a row with the easy opponent, and never saw this behavior.

Can anyone else repro this?

Ok, after longer testing.

It only seemed to appear when the Start player is human and blue and had a tank, an artillery and an infantry after the mulligans.

Nonetheless, I could also not reproduce it again today. I start to think my Java is weird.
