Siege Scenario Ideas
« on: August 25, 2010, 03:22:05 PM »
I'm looking for generic ideas on what kind of sieges we could re-create for BG:Siege Warfare. Oh yes my friends, this is in development.

Please note that the actual castle part is not necessary. I just need a non-specific kind of battle description that you might find if you were playing with castles.

A classic example to get the ball rolling: "To the last man!"

The defender is hopelessly outnumbered and is trying to hold out as long as possible against the advancing hordes. Calls for a small defender contingent against at least four times their point value in attackers. Both sides bid to see who will be the defender - bidding how many turns they can hold out. VP awarded as:

5-1 Attacker Victory: all defenders eliminated two or more turns earlier than the bid
4-2 Attacker Victory: all defenders eliminated one turn earlier than the bid
3-3 Draw: all defenders eliminated on the bid turn
4-2 Defender Victory: all defenders eliminated one turn later than the bid
5-1 Defender Victory: all defenders eliminated two or more turns later than the bid
8-0 Defender Victory: all attackers eliminated, and the defenders are immortalized in song and myth forever

Lazyj - check your FB messages, I put some siege ideas on that. I came up with the whole sige resolution set up thing at work today and I will e-mail it to you when I get it written out. Also developed some actual on board stuff also. Very productive day!

Amusingly I was flicking through the rules just last night and noticed the part about Siege Rules to follow.

More importantly, though, when are we getting Dark Elves!?

I can't answer to that, but the more ideas I get here the better off I'll be in getting the siege piece out.

Anyone?

"Rescue the princess" maybe?

If lazyj and I could get together for one session we could have a play-test version ready soon after. :P

Any number of variations on "capture the flag". (rescue the princess)

Then there is the "Alesia" scenarios. (Outside force coming to break the siege before the besieged give up.) (variable timelines or endpoints, perhaps based on a blind bid process)

"Sortie" variations - High value Item/Individual getting away after a hole is punched; besieging force is temporaily depleted and expecting reinforcements (someplace, sometime).

"Treachery" & variations; somebody on the inside is willing to 'open the gate'.

Sally! When the guys inside make a charge out and take the enemy by storm, usually when some reinforcements show up...Hey, didn't that happen in a movie not too long ago?  ;D

So basicaly, reinforcements show up on a flank and while the enemy is responding to that the troops inside charge out. Maybe 750 points inside and 750 or a thousand outside and the attacker with 2000, but he doesn't know where they will come in from, or when, and he wants to be inside the castle when it happens.

Excellent three player variation where the relief force gets bigger the more turns they wait, but if they wait too long the point becomes moot. and the relief player can't let the besieged player know his choice.

All this expanding on Jack's Alesia concept.

It is going well, though the biggest delay is scheduling time for James and I to test out our ideas, but posts like yours go along way towards shaking things up. ;)

If it would work, please let me know if you want to try the Rorke's Drift Scenario that was posted.

I would be honored to help if you would be interested?

I also have an idea for an island type defense that can be played on a standard battle field. (Think Iwo Jima)

Northern end of Los Angeles, California. Sadly a little farther then I could drive to see you...

Coincidently, I'll will be driving with family through LA enroute to a cruise that leaves Halloween. Saturday my fam will be doing disneyland (maybe) if that turns out to be the case it would be really cool to throw down with you instead of Mickey and Goofey.  ;) What do you think? Is this feasible for you? it would be the 30th.
