Cool.  Were the rules for using mercs ever clarified?

BTW, I'm convinced that the new shooting rules are a cute way to hook in new players, but a game breaker for serious tournament play.  Insofar as up to now you'd do an interesting strategy of maneuver and you win but now it's you do an interesting game of maneuver OR you win.

Was hoping that if both players agree then the game is played by the old shooting rules.  (Or even better, unless both players agree you use the old rules.)  But if need be I'll just have to prove the above assertion the old-fashioned way.

OK, after some hemming and hawing, I'm going to keep Merc availability simple.  To put it plainly, Mercs will be allowed in some rounds and forbidden in others as indicated in the edit I made in the initial post of this thread.  For the rounds they are permitted, the only limitation is that Mercenary units may not account for more than half of your allotted points total.  So for a 1500 point game you cannot have more than 750 points of Merc units.

Working out the shooting thing though I'd strongly prefer to have all games played consistently.

12 days out.  Blakely and I will be there--Dwarves & Wuxing respectively.  Anyone new or irregular likely to show?  I did email back and forth with Jaime who probably will be there Saturday & Sunday.

Manny said he'd likely make it.  He attended the last one we had at Pandemonium, which I think was 2014.

Just a few days away folks!  I'm pretty excited to be rather honest.  I have prizes too!

Nice!  Blakely and I did one last practice game today, in which she gave my Elven army a good ass-whuppin'.  Sorry no report until after the con.  :)

I should clarify that this:

After some soul searching we are going to strip this thing down and go with the current 3.1 rules AS PRINTED.  So if you have the most recent rule book, you know the rules!

means that Mercs are allowed as per the standard rule, with no limitation other than you hit your factions' Core requirements

Sure, a tournament I'm not going to, and you get to use freaking mercs.

Oh, and thanks to Marcus for running it all!  Nice to relax and play; pity that Marcus only got to play 2 games then stepped out of competition.

Thanks for the update Kevin!  I was too bushed to post anything last night when we finally got home.  Here's the line up of suspects:

Saturday Round Robin

Kevin (Wuxing) 4-0
Blakely (Dwarves) 3-1
Brook (Ravenwood) 2-2
Jaime (Alexander) 2-2
Ron (Alexander) 1-2
Eric (Dark Elves) 1-3
Marcus (Orcs) 1-1
Manny (Hawkshold) 0-3

Ron didn't show up til 12 on Saturday so he missed the first game and I sat the round out.  Manny had to leave after the 3rd game on Saturday evening so I also sat out the 4th round to keep the number of players even.

Sunday Finals Tree
I'm partially plagiarizing from Kevin's post so this can all be in the same post

Semifinals:
Kevin (1st seed) over Jaime (4th seed)
Brook (3rd seed) over Blakely (2nd seed)

Finals:  Brook over Kevin

Tiebreaker for 3rd/4th:  Jaime over Blakely

I'll post more throughout the week and I'll try to get some pictures up as soon as I figure out how to upload all of those fancy little items to a flikr account.  Thanks again so much to everybody for coming and congratulations to Brook who finally was able to drag a Championship back to his Ravenwood home town!
